Hi there! Sometimes dies can be a bit bland and plain on cards with just colored cardstock. So in today’s video, I am sharing three easy ways to add shading to your die cuts and make them stand out on cards. 🙂

Colored Copic Shading
To add shading onto the first example, I used Copic Sketch Markers that were one or two shades darker than the paper and feathered the color on to the Flamingo die. You can continue to build up color and go darker to make the wing stand out and get a 3D effect!
I cut a shaped window using the Classic Heart dies to create a spotlight for the flamingo. To finish off the card, I stamped a sentiment using the You Are My Happy stamp set and added everything together using foam tape for some extra dimension.
Gray Copic Shading
This technique gives similar results and works great if you don’t have a ton of colorful Copic Markers. To add shading to the Camping die set, I used a light gray marker and flicked color on using the brush end. You can layer up the gray color or go darker to create darker shading. Adding the extra shading can give dies a whole new look (like the fun shading I used on the trees)!
I added everything onto the card and finished it off with a stamped little critter peeking out of the tent using the Fly Away Friends stamp set.
Inkpad Blended Shading
For the last card, I added shading using Mini Ink Blending Tools and ink pads that are a bit darker than the cardstock. I started from the Inside of the Palm Tree dies to get the shading leaves would have. This is an easy way to add color and a great way to use all of those colorful inks you may own!
I cut a window using the Pierced Circle dies and created a background with Nuvo Embellishment Mousse. I spread the Mother Of Pearl color using my finger to get a textured, shimmery, and pearly background, but the mousse is very versatile and is a great investment to create your own embellishments (the colors are all shimmery goodness)!
On all of the cards, I embellished using mainly Nuvo Drops. I love to use these and add some extra detail to the cards (similar to enamel dots) keeping it pretty masculine, rather than adding sequins. You can also take some creative freedom and create your own shapes in tons of colors! Definitely my new embellishing addiction! 🙂
