Hi there! Alcohol inks are what got me started in the wonderful cardmaking world and I like to revisit them every once in a while with new techniques. Today’s video shares how to color images with an overlay of alcohol inks.
Alcohol inks can be applied in many different ways and work best on non porous surfaces like acetate, vellum, yupo, and specialty cardstock. In the video I used a sponge, however an applicator tool with felt will give you the best results and more use out of the inks.
For both cards, I stamped my main image and cut a piece of acetate/packaging to go overtop (this can be done by hand or with coordinating dies). Then, I added one drop of my colors to the tool and dabbed it onto the acetate. You can continue adding color until you are happy with the fun patterns and results. To stick the acetate to the image, I just used tape runner adhesive which is not visible and holds it onto my image well.

For the first card, I created a colored overlay on top of a fish tank using the Fintastic Friends stamp set. I used a variety of blue alcohol ink colors for the tank and colored the sand and images using Copic markers.
The second card is a bit more time consuming, but gives fun and stunning results! I built my own funny stamped scene using the Woof and Irreverent Birthday stamp sets. Then, I masked off and stamped a whole bundle of balloons and created my ink overlay for them on acetate with bright colors.
To finish of the scene, I stamped a little puppy and drew in some balloon strings to make it look like he was flying away! I gave the dog some spots and color with Prismacolor pencils to make him look like one of my dogs. 🙂
