Hey there! Today I was inspired to step out of my comfort zone with some messy watercolor pooling using the Bird Crazy stamp set. I bought this set a while ago and never found a great card to use it on, but today I was inspired to pull it out for this fun card.
To start off this card, I used my MISTI stamping tool and lined up all of the crazy birds onto my panel. The MISTI allows you to stamp it more than once in the same spot to get a nice crisp dark image.
To watercolor the fun birds I used Gansai Tambi watercolors to get a bright vibrant messy look. Now this is where the real fun starts! Watercolor using whatever colors you like and be sure to go outside of the lines. It may look terrible at first, but the more it drys the better it looks, so give the images some time to dry.
For the background, I added brown watercolor onto and acrylic block and added it onto the background on the panel. If you like you can also add some splatters onto the background using the same brown color.
To add the sentiment I cut a hole in the canter birds wings and slid the sentiment panel in. Finally, I added the bird panel onto a top folding card base with no border.
Enjoy the video!

Great video. LOVE your card. The TH Bird Crazy stamp set is my favorite and I like how you used the set to create a really neat card.
Such a gifted young man you are!
Very nice Simon. I am hoping to learn to water colour this year and this is a good reminder to “let go” of thinking every line needs to be perfect as that is NOT what water colouring is about. TFS!
What a fantastic card!! I love it. The watercoloring perfectly suits the birds. Great masculine card too, can’t wait to try this with my gansai tambi set.
Nice job Simon! I struggle with this stamp set too. I like it a lot, but sometimes don’t know exactly what to do with it. I’m going to try this. Water coloring works great with it. Thanks for the video!
Love your wild colored birds!
Hi Simon ~ Awesome job stepping out of your comfort zone! I have trouble doing that as well but your results were fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing!

This old grandma has a problem with watercoloring because I don’t like going out of the lines………..LOL, but after looking at your adorable card, maybe I will just give it a try!
Well they don’t call them CRAZY Birds for nothing! I, like you would have a hard time working with these stamps even though I adore them! I hink this card/video really solved my problem thanks Simon. OBTW I think TH would love this card!
I love watching your videos and this card came out really good. I like the way you added the brown on the acrylic block so it would be light all the way around. Good idea!
Great job…I learn so much from you!
What a great card! That is a great look! You reminded me of what I heard in a recent OCC watercolor class & that is watercolor often looks worse before it looks good.
I just love this card! I’ve been pining after those crazy bird stamps for a while, but thought that they would be too much trouble to try to figure out how to color as most people use Copics. Now I’m thinking that my Peerless watercolors could do the trick! Thanks!
Pretty! This has been an incredibly wonderful post. Thanks for providing these details.
Love the messy look for the crazy birds!!!
Love this card!!! Thanks for the tutorial!
Great card. Love the technique you used. I’m a color inside the lines person too, but I’ve been trying to get outside my comfort zone and do different things too. I’ll have to try something like this. thanks for sharing this with us.
Such a fun way to color those Crazy Birds! I love it! Will try this messy coloring soon–thanks for the inspiration!
What kind of paper did you use. Did you score a Neenah Cardstock and start or did you add a layer of watercolor paper? Please reply. I’ve been trying to figure it out.
