Hi there! Today I was inspired to step out of my comfort zone with another messy card design using ink pads. The video will show you how to use this fun and inky technique with rubber cement liquid masking.
I love creating cards that are a little bit out of my style and typical card designs. With these types of cards the more ink and color the better! I will be using the Butterfly Sentiments stamp set to stamp these fun cards.
Start off by stamping down all four of the butterfly images. These will be the focal point of the card, so make sure they are stamped straight using the MISTI.
To mask off the images cover them using a thin layer of rubber cement with an unwanted paint brush. Wait 10 – 15 minutes for the liquid masking to dry. (Once dry it should have a matte finish)
I used a variety of colored inks and swiped them onto the cards from darkest to lightest colors. You can use and assortment of dye, pigment, or chalk inks. I used dye inks, however the middle colors are chalk inks from Brutus|Monroe.
For the sentiments I used Gilded and Sterling embossing powder with the Botanical Sentiment 1 stamp set. I also stamped a banner above the word “happy” so that the sentiment read “You make me happy”.
I mounted both of the panels onto black card bases, so that the bright colors would pop. Although the masking is not perfect because of the ink rubbing onto the white space, I loved creating these two fun and colorful cards and I hope you will give this technique a try.
Enjoy the video!
