Masking + Stenciling With Dies

Hi there! Every once in a while I come across dies that would work great as a stencil or mask to get unique results on cards. However, sometimes paper masks don’t hold up over time. So, today’s video shares how to create your own stencils and masks that are very durable and easy to clean over and over again.

To make sure that the stencils and masks that I create hold up over time, I use Yupo Translucent paper which is made of Polypropylene. This is a very durable, plastic-like paper material that does not rip and can handle lots of use. I like to invest in a large pad of Yupo because it can be used for many cardmaking techniques. However, you can also purchase a small pack of Yupo for a more affordable price.

On the first example, I used the Four Seasons Tree die to cut a mask from the Yupo. This allowed me to create a colorful inked background that resisted the tree from any color.

I finished off the tree by adding some Nuvo Drops to look like ornaments and add some colored texture.

For the second card, I cut a deer stencil using the Winter Canopy dies. This allowed me to get a solid inked image and a mirrored image on its side.

I also used snowflakes from the die set to stamp a background with the cutting edge. This creates a beautiful subtle background with very faint lines.

The stencils and masks are also very easy to clean off and store along with the dies for more use! 🙂
