Hi there! Thanks so much for celebrating 1000 YouTube subscribers with me. I have created three cards today using some Christmas stamps and dies from Ellen Hutson designed by Julie Ebersole.
The theme of the hop is watercolor. I have been very inspired by watercolors of all sorts ever since I started making cards. I still love using them on most of my cards and think it adds a nice organic splash of color!
I have invited some amazing, super inspirational designers to join me and help celebrate this milestone. Be sure to continue hopping along their blogs and check out all of the fun projects that they have created! Have fun hopping.
I created the first card by water coloring a vibrant rainbow background using Gansai Tambi watercolors. These watercolors are great for creating backgrounds because they are slightly opaque and super buttery.
I then used the Home and Hearth die set and cut out a couple of the little houses and trees. I stamped my sentiment from the the Mistletoe And Holly stamp set and matted the panel over the top of the watercolor background.
For the second card, I stamped down the images from the Elf’d stamp set in a row and colored them using Prismacolor pencils. I stamped the fun sentiment and cut out the images in a line.
To create the background, I blended some Distress Inks in the colors Salty Ocean and Mermaid Lagoon. I sprayed some water using the Distress Sprayer to remove some color and add texture. Finally I stamped some little snowflakes with some light blue ink.
The last card was pretty simple, I heat embossed a large sentiment and snowflakes using a stamp from the Holly Jolly stamp set.
I water colored the background using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens, using many different shades of blue and watered them down using a water brush. If you would like a more intense color you can skip the water and just blend with the pens.
Enjoy the video and have fun hopping!

Hi Simon, Congratulations on your 1000 subscribers!! I was looking forward to this hop today, mostly because I think it’s important for us older crafters to support you younger ones! HA! Your cards today are so nice … and water color is a great medium. I am not very experienced with water color; still learning for sure! I have the most experience with water color pencils so I guess I’m more comfortable with them than any other water color medium. I want to buy a good set, but haven’t decided between the Koi or Gansi!? However, I just got the Brutus Monroe inks today, and I am planning on using them for water coloring. We’ll see how that goes. See you on periscope!

Oops hit the done button too soon. I love many types of water colors….inktense pencils, distress inks, traditional watercolors. I love the pretty soft look you get from watercoloring.

Oh I forgot to answer your question 😉 I currently do not have any favorite water colors because I don’t own any. I used to water color with Crayola water coloring pencils but they were nothing fantastic, lol! I’ve been wanting to try Peerless, Kuratake, or something like those Colorburst. I have them on my Christmas wish list.
Congrats ! Very nice cards too, love watercolors. Love tu use Distress Ink , but I would like to try Gansai.

Congratulations on 1000 subscribers! I use distress inks as watercolors and watercolor pencils. Other than that I am really not that advanced on watercoloring. Thanks so much for the tutorials!!!
wonderful projects, Simon! And congrats on your milestone!
Saw your video on create a smile 🙂
My favorite watercolor: I watercolored with watercolor pens and distress inks.
A few weeks ago I got the Kuretake Gansai Watercolor, which is wonderful too.
I think, every watercolor is different. The Gansai has more pigment and I have to be more careful, but can make wonderful results. The distress inks are easier to handle and to achieve that soft watercolored look. 🙂
Have a nice weekend and greetings from Germany!
Natalie

Simon,
Congratulations, I see your almost up to 1500 subbies on YT now so this hop has really pushed you even higher, I am so glad for you! I loved all the cards you made for this post and enjoyed seeing you use different types of Watercolors. I find it hard to choose just one watercolor myself as my favorite because it really depends on what I am looking to create. I think for backgrounds I would say Distress Inks, but for coloring and image, probably either Inktense pencils or my Koi Watercolors.
Thanks for the awesome hop and the chance to win some fun prizes as well. Very generous of your sponsors, and I will let them know I appreciate it.
Hugs,
Maureen

I love the houses & trees card with the heart. I like either ordinary water color paints or “watercoloring” with distress inks.
Congrats Simon, I agree about TH watercolor paper being a bright white and always use it because of the whiteness…will take your advice about the Canson watercolor paper for the Zig markers…that color went down and looked amazing when you where finished with it…Great job…I will be sharing your video with my 12 year old Great Nephew who just moved closer to me and is hooked on making cards…what an inspiration you are to other young people…loved the video.

Hi Simon, I’m just taking a break from watercoloring my Christmas cards, and I found you through Laura Bassen’s blog. My favorite WC medium is the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. Love them. I am also using the Ranger Distress Markers scribbled on an acrylic block for my coloring. Both are wonderful, both are different. Congratulations, and my best wishes for your bright future.

Hi Simon ~ What a great job you’ve done on your cards as well as on the video you’ve done. You should be so proud of yourself; you’ve worked hard and hit the 1000 subscriber mark on You Tube! Congratulations!! I think my favorite of your cards is the first in the video, with the die cut houses. The colors are warm and inviting. Congratulations on reaching 1000 you tube subscribers! You did a great job on the cards, and on your video. It shows that you really enjoy the creation process. Thanks for sharing.
I loved the cards you created for this blog hop. My favorite watercolor is still the watercolor in paint tubes. I am old school, I know. If I am in a hurry, Distress inks work just fine. While I like the convenience of the Zig watercolor brush pens, they are not meant for huge areas–just fine, detailed work.
What a talented guy you are! Just great work. I am looking forward to seeing what you create in the future!
This is my first time visiting your blog Simon… and WOW! I am blown away by your talent! Congrats on your milestone! Well done! Fantastic cards… especially love the first one with the house windows and that sweet little heart. I have a cheap one from Michael’s… which is not the greatest for coloring images, but great for messy backgrounds… I also have a small Gansai Tambi set… Thanks for the fantastic blog hop.
Congratulations, Simon! I love your cards. Thanks for sharing your talents with us. I like to watercolor with Peerless Watercolors.
I’m now a subscriber to your Youtube channel (cretancrafter).

Found your blog through the hop – you’re making great projects! I love watercoloring and have always wanted to try the Gansai Tambi watercolors because the inexpensive ones I have do come out chalky sometimes.
Love your cards. Since I’m fairly new to the craft world and not having many choices, I use distress inks for getting the watercolor effect. I do enjoy coloring with prismacolor pencils. At such a young age, you are truly inspiring to us. Thank you.
What great cards. I love the little village.
Congrats Simon, I love to water color with zig real brush pens. Thanks for the chance to win.

All three of your cards were great! My favorite technique was the first one where you water colored the background and cut out the scene and placed the homes on top of the background. But I have to add that I LOVE that elf stamp set. 😀
Just got watercolor crayons and really excited to start using them!
Great cards Simon! Enjoyed your video as well! Congratulations!

I’m currently using distress ink pads to watercolour and really hope to get my hands on Zig’s clean color real brush pens soon too.
Great work! I really like the elf card—just a touch of holiday whimsy! Keep up the good work!

I just love the intensity of the Peerless less watercolors. Congratulations on 1000 subscribers!
Hi, Simon! I was simply too excited about your blog hop to leave comments when I first looked at the cards and videos. You may get tired of hearing it, but I am simply amazed by your ability to successfully create cards, write a blog, produce YouTube videos, broadcast scopes, and keep up with school.
I really enjoy blog hops and loved all of the cards. They have inspired me ! I don’t think I can select a favorite water coloring medium. Currently, I have been enjoying my Zig clean color real brush markers and Prima water coloring pencils. I have also been using my Tombow dual tip brush markers to practice lettering.
Thank you for sharing your creativity! I look forward to more videos, posts, and scopes!
Hi Simon! Congrats on 1,000 subscribers! My favorite watercolor product has to be the Distress inks.
Hi Simon, I’ve just subscribed to your channel. Well done on some beautiful cards. I love the Zig pens but unfortunately they are way to expensive especially if you convert to the South African Rand! Keep up the good work. Look forward to future cards :).
